Out in the early morning looking for something to photograph, I saw there was fog in the valley and I figured the light would be nice on the lake. When I got there, this image was there to greet meet.

The zigzags on the stairway are for real. (For those who remember “The Outer Limits”: “Don’t adjust your vertical, don’t adjust your horizontal. For the next hour we will control all that you see and hear.”)

Will I Ever Fly Again?

I felt sorry for the vintage planes in their snow-dusted graveyard on airport hill in Roxbury, Conn. Wheels sunk in the ground, they will never again know the thrill of flying through the clouds or feel the heat of the sun’s rays through their canopies.

On a gray afternoon in August, the reflection of the clouds and sky in the water created a gentle monotone modified only by the soft ripples and divided by the line of hills in muted green.

The storm clouds moved in, the wind kicked up and blew my umbrella insideout. Rain, lightning, then just as quickly the sun poked through. I knew there would be a rainbow. I turned around and sure enough there it was.

Out in the early hours near Lake Lillinonah, I headed to the water’s edge to capture the rising morning mist illuminating the shadows.
